Telmap Releases the Q2, 2011 Telmap Metrics Report

September 12, 2011 By Editor

LONDON, September 12, 2011 – Telmap, the original pioneers in mobile location-based services, today releases the third edition of Telmap Metrics Report, which is released on a quarterly basis, summarizing usage and activity conducted through Telmap based solutions.

Telmap is a world leader in mobile location-based services, providing white-label, fully hosted and managed location-based services to over 26 mobile operators globally, and serving more than 6 million end users around the world.

This quarter we have decided to take a closer look at usage habits and interests (through search patterns) in major European countries. Interestingly, we can see that about 18% of the searches are around food, 30% are around transportation, 15% are around grocery shopping and 12% are around shopping and fun.

We can also see that about 50% of the searches mention a specific place or brand name, whereas the other 50% mention a specific category (e.g., hotel, food, and cinema). The search patterns also indicate that most usage is around day to day activities, rather than special occasions only.

When it comes to Telmap users’ search patterns, we continue to see an increase in the use of POI search rather than full address search, as people get more accustomed to the improved user interface and understand its benefits.

The second quarter of 2011 is the first quarter where Telmap sees the number of new activations on Android devices surpassing the number of new activations on the iPhone.

Furthermore, our usage data continues to support the general mobile market trends: Nokia’s continuous decline, iPhone heading the pack, Android devices’ share growing rapidly, Blackberry more or less maintaining its share and Bada demonstrating an interesting increase, which will be interesting to follow in the coming quarters.

The full report is available for download on www.telmap.com, where you can also to register to be notified whenever a new edition of the report is available.
