GIS Cloud Mobile App for Data Collection Enables Real Time Access to Data from Anywhere

August 22, 2011 By Editor

London, August 22, 2011 – GIS Cloud, the cloud based geographic information system (GIS) for visualization, sharing and collaboration of geo data online, announced on their blog that users of their application and platform have a new system for mobile data collection available. The new application targets Android based smartphones, with iOs support coming soon.

Through GIS Cloud, mobile application data collected off-site is available to users immediately, regardless of their location. With just an Internet connection GIS Cloud users can easily access, publish or share their data in real time, as it’s being collected. More possibilities can be realized through use of the available APIs. Communication with the application, sending and retrieving of data is performed through GIS Cloud’s REST API. This way all data collected with the smarphone application is sent directly to a layer in GIS Cloud.

Practical use of the application for mobile data collection is presented through a use case, the road maintenance service in the City of Zagreb, with a metropolitan area with a population of over 1 million.

For the full article and more information about the presented use case visit the GIS Cloud blog.

About GIS Cloud

The mission of GIS Cloud is not only to supplement desktop solutions, but extend and enrich their capabilities through the potential the Internet provides. It is a more accessible way of visualizing, analyzing and sharing geospatial data, provided using the software as a service model, but also available free of charge. Emphasis is on collaboration between colleagues or fellow GIS Cloud users, easy access to data regardless of the user’s location and giving users a chance to quickly and easily publish maps on the web, share anywhere in the world or use the provided GIS platform to build geo and location aware apps.

It is the way we believe we can give GIS a new dimension.  http://www.giscloud.com/
