Royal Air Force Mildenhall, UK, Project Wins Honor Award

July 24, 2011 By Editor

Aurora, CO – July 22, 2011 – The Royal Air Force Mildenhall, UK’s 352nd Special Operations Group Area Development Plan was awarded an honor award by the U.S. Air Force.  The development plan included planning studies, facility utilization and condition assessment and installation site development guides prepared by Merrick & Company and HB&A.  The project, contracted under Merrick’s Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) 4PAE contract, was performed through Merrick’s San Antonio office, HB&A’s Colorado Springs office, and on-site at Mildenhall.

Juror comments on the project included “plan option evaluations were clearly presented and defended”; “strategic visioning at its best”; and “great articulation of detail.”

The awards, established in 1976, are presented annually to recognize and promote design and planning excellence.  Design awards are presented in three levels.  Honor awards signify the best in design followed by merit awards.  Citation awards, the third category, are given to designs that possess a special aspect that also deserves recognition.

Merrick & Company is a $125 million, employee-owned engineering, architecture, design-build, surveying, and geospatial solutions firm, serving domestic and international clients in the national security, energy, life sciences, and sustainable infrastructure markets.  The firm’s current work includes projects at Lackland Air Force Base, Cannon Air Force Base, and Luke Air Force Base. The company maintains 10 offices in the U.S. as well as offices in Canada and Mexico.

For 40 years, HB&A has focused on delivering integrated architecture, community planning and supporting technologies to federal clients.  The Air Force and Army have been the firm’s biggest clients. Their strength is delivering professional services that address long term site, facility, and environmental requirements.  Their staff of 35 includes five members of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), six licensed architects, and numerous supporting planners, designers, GIS specialists, web developers, and graphic artists.
