DigitalGlobe Launches Global Basemap Subscription Service

July 12, 2011 By GISuser

Longmont, CO – July 12, 2011) – DigitalGlobe (NYSE: DGI), a leading global provider of high-resolution earth imagery solutions, debuted its Global Basemap subscription service at the Esri International User Conference in San Diego. Based on the company’s comprehensive and constantly refreshed ImageLibrary, and powered by its Cloud Services platform, Global Basemap gives customers fast and easy online access to existing and newly collected imagery so that they have the visual information needed to make critical decisions. The service is being demonstrated during the week-long conference in DigitalGlobe’s booth, #1901.

With Global Basemap, DigitalGlobe continues to close the gap between the time that an image is collected and processed and the time that a government or business can use it to make more informed decisions. Thanks to the company’s expansive commercial satellite constellation, ground station network and superior technical infrastructure, images can be made available to Global Basemap customers on-demand.

"Our goal was to create a service from which customers can get the relevant imagery they need, where, when and how they need it," said John Oechsle, DigitalGlobe’s executive vice president, strategy and product. "Continuous advances in our technology infrastructure in space and on the ground allow us to deliver highly accurate imagery as it becomes available, a benefit our customers not only appreciate, but increasingly demand."

The company also announced today that Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the world’s fourth largest crude oil producer and an existing DigitalGlobe customer, has signed with the company to now use Global Basemap to monitor and manage its business across Mexico. PEMEX’s highly complex operations, which support every stage of oil production, include nearly 60,000 kilometers of pipeline, seven refineries, 77 storage facilities and 15 gas processing plants. See "PEMEX Signs with DigitalGlobe for Global Basemap" at media.digitalglobe.com.

Oechsle added that Global Basemap is ideally suited for a range of imagery applications. "This service delivers the clear and accurate visual perspective that helps customers visualize a specific environment, plan projects and events and produce accurate measurements. It is fast becoming an essential tool for our government and corporate customers worldwide."

Global Basemap includes imagery sourced from DigitalGlobe’s own high-resolution satellite constellation and aerial network as well as additional third party low-resolution sources. It leverages the company’s ImageLibrary, which today includes approximately 1.5 billion square kilometers of imagery and is three times the size of other available high-resolution, commercial image libraries.

Global Basemap is available now via an annual or multi-year subscription, with variable pricing based on regions, scope and timeframe.
