Gardiner, Maine – June 23th, 2011 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce its participation at the 2011 Maine GIS Annual Meeting and Summer School. Patrick Cunningham, President of Blue Marble, will present a talk on Coordinate System Fundamentals at Sunday River Ski Resort in Bethel, Maine on June 24th 2011. This has become a very popular event, with excellent workshops aimed at expanding the community’s geospatial skills and knowledge while also providing networking opportunities with other GIS professionals.

Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

Cunningham will be presenting an introduction, or refresher, on the basics of geodesy. Topics to be covered include: ellipsoids, datums, and geodetic systems; Cartesian and projected systems; datum transformations; and other issues of coordinate conversion. Blue Marble has a long track record of training surveyors and GIS users about the intricacies of geodetics, including coordinate systems, projections, datums, and other essential concepts, through applied hands-on software training.  Maine has a rich history in surveying and mapping, and Blue Marble is dedicated to helping today’s students learn more about GIS as it is a great scientific tool. Whether you’re an expert in GIS or just starting out this is essential to understanding the real concepts behind mapping. Blue Marble Geographics has been creating geographic software for many years, and has encountered the same challenges that users face every day.
