Andrew Turner "Father of Neogeography" Honored for Exceptional Organizational Leadership
ARLINGTON, VA– – GeoIQ today announced that Andrew Turner, CTO of GeoIQ, is a recipient of the 2011 SmartCTO Award. Profiled in the April issue of SmartCEO magazine, Andrew was honored with the SmartCTO Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership and support of GeoIQ’s vision.
As a leader both within GeoIQ and the humanitarian community, Andrew is widely known as the "father of neogeography" and a visionary within the geospatial market. After playing a key role in building both the GeoIQ location intelligence enterprise engine and the GeoCommons community site, Andrew used his innovative thinking and leadership capabilities to help drive GeoIQ’s rapid growth.
To support GeoIQ’s forward-thinking business strategy, Andrew has implemented several programs that cultivate a spirit of teamwork and innovation. He actively encourages every team member to brainstorm ideas and take ownership of new capabilities for inclusion in the platform. For example, Andrew created the "GeoIQ Launch List," a point-based system that encourages and rewards GeoIQ engineers to develop and then pitch to the company their ideas about how to enhance the GeoIQ engine. Additionally, for one week each summer Andrew and the GeoIQ engineering team retreat to the coast for a week of focused brainstorming and development away from the office.
Andrew’s outstanding leadership is a competitive advantage for the company. His innovative development team has remained at the forefront of market trends by being able to quickly build and adapt products.
