New iMapWeather Radio App for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch Unveiled at CTIA

March 23, 2011 By Editor

Ground breaking application "wakes up" your device and talks to you when life-threatening weather approaches, providing instant voice and text alerts, early warnings, and real-time severe weather video when you need it most

CTIA, Orlando, FL, March 23, 2011 – When life-threatening weather strikes, where do you turn for instant information? You are asleep, or are nowhere near a laptop, radio, or television, how can you be alerted to what’s happening or tune in to local weather alerts? You are in an open area and a tornado approaches – where is it headed? What about your family and friends? Flash floods are imminent, but which areas are at risk? Should you drive on or pull over?

The answer to these questions is iMapWeather Radio, a whole new way to be alerted and listen to vital life-threatening weather information, right on your mobile device. Unlike a traditional weather radio, the application "wakes up" when danger approaches. For more information: wdtinc.com/iMapWeatherRadio

iMapWeather Radio is on display at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, CTIA Wireless 2011 trade show, taking place in March 22-24 in Orlando, Florida.

iMapWeather Radio was designed by weather leader Weather Decision Technologies, Inc., (WDT) to go beyond a traditional weather radio and offer instant voice and text alerts which are based on location preferences, as well as real-time video on your mobile device, when you need it most.

"With iMapWeather Radio for iPhone, you and your loved ones can keep safe in severe weather by receiving highly precise alerts that are always close at hand – right on your Apple or Android device, in the palm of your hand," said Mike Eilts, President and CEO of WDT. "iMapWeatherRadio lets you listen with ease to local weather forecasts, while you are on the go or are heading for cover. An equivalent iMapWeather Radio Android application will be hitting the Android Market soon," he added.

With iMapWeather Radio, users enjoy all the convenience of a smart phone, featuring timely video, voice forecasts, verbal, and/or textual severe weather early warnings. The iMapWeather Radio offers the following rich set of key safety features:

  • Alerts – Users can be the first to know in a weather emergency by receiving "wake up call" voice alerts from the National Weather Service during severe weather events. Benefits include seamless local alerts, nationwide. You can receive the same alerts you enjoy in your home town, anywhere across the country.
  • World class weather maps – explore an interactive map and first class radar, showing your location relative to emergency warnings and radar echoes. Set preferences for tornadoes, storms, floods, fog, ice, high winds, real-time watches and warnings at your favorite locations or receive forecasts, every day and when it really counts.
  • Multiple locations – Receive precise notifications for your location, and up to four other locations, delivered directly to your mobile device. Keep track on your home, your kid’s school, your parents place, your workplace or your best friends’ homes. Anywhere you care most about.
  • Video Programming – Check in with local TV severe weather programming, with real-time streaming video from your local television stations (where available). Tune in to your own personal weather channel on your mobile phone. The location-sensitive iMapWeather Radio platform allows trusted local television and radio broadcasters to provide breaking news for a precise location in times of impending danger (where available).
