Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Responding To Australia Floods With Esri GIS Mobile Technology

February 21, 2011 By Editor

Tom Patterson, Esri Wildland Fire Specialist recently returned from working with the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service with their flood mapping efforts.

Patterson comments how he was thrilled to be working with professionals (the Fire Commissioner in this case) who actually "gets it". Tom describes how the teams in Queensland were using Geo technologies along with solutions from Esri to get real-time information to support the emergency response. This from Tom as he shares what the teams were doing in the field under no doubt what was some pretty intense time lines and pressure from the chiefs for real-time situational awareness…

Thanks to Tom Patterson, ESRI Wildland Fire Specialist for providing details of this effort and information about the fine job being done by Mark Wallace and his team at Queensland Fire and Rescue Service

As they have done for many recent disasters, Esri team members created an impressive social media map to describe the affected areas and share social media updates including Twitter tweets, youtube videos, and flickr photos that were being crowd-sourced, real time from affected areas.
