NAVTEQ Traffic Now Spans Five Continents Outpacing Rivals with More Real-Time Coverage Worldwide

February 15, 2011 By Editor

NAVTEQ Traffic helps more drivers in more places get where they’re going faster and more efficiently with real-time traffic information

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 15, 2011 — NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announced today that its global coverage of NAVTEQ Traffic real-time information service now spans five continents– within the last quarter NAVTEQ has launched six new countries around the world: Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Spain and United Arab Emirates.  NAVTEQ Traffic is now available in 23* countries, offering more country coverage than other traffic suppliers.

Whether drivers are facing four rush hours in Barcelona or driving in Moscow, one of the most congested cities in the world, they need access to details on current traffic conditions so they can make more informed routing and re-routing decisions.

NAVTEQ aggregates data from a comprehensive range of sources including one of the world’s largest compilations of both commercial and consumer probe data; the world’s largest fixed proprietary sensor network; event-based data collected from bodies such as the police force, emergency services and road charge organizations; and billions of historical data records collected over the past eight years.  Unique, proprietary technology is used to integrate, process and transmit traffic information.

With the dramatic growth of GPS data collected from millions of handsets and connected in-car and PND devices, NAVTEQ has been able to accelerate expansion and offer accurate coverage not only on motorways and main roads, but also on secondary roads in urban centers.

"NAVTEQ Traffic is helping people and goods move faster and more efficiently across the global landscape," said Howard Hayes, senior vice president, NAVTEQ Traffic.  "As leaders in global traffic coverage, we’re uniquely equipped to ease some of the pain associated with navigating around traffic whether the journey is a daily commute or long-haul travel."

NAVTEQ’s expansion plans remain ambitious and the company will continue to take NAVTEQ Traffic into new countries and territories around the world.

* NAVTEQ Traffic is available in: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, United States.
