January 11, 2011 By Editor

Via NRCan, the agency invites users to browse the latest data collection and updates…

From NRCan… Natural Resources Canada invites you to browse our latest selection of map and data releases:

New Canadian Topographic Maps

NRCan announces the release of 324 new, updated or re-released Canadian Topographic Maps accessible via GeoGratis. This release includes new maps covering regions of Canada’s North previously unmapped at 1:50 000 scale, as well as updated maps for areas in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. See the list of newly released topographic maps on GeoGratis.

With this release, the number of Canadian Topographic Maps released as part of the CanTopo collection stands at 1302.

Paper copies of all Canadian Topographic Maps are also available through Regional Distributors of the Canada Map Office, and through Certified Map Printers who ensure local, high quality, on-demand plotting of topographic maps.

New 1:50 000 scale topographic data

NRCan announces the 7th release of CanVec vector topographic data, along with Toporama raster topographic data derived from CanVec. This release includes:

      • Addition of 175 new datasets,

      • Update of National Road Network (NRN) for six provinces and territories,

      • 215 datasets now contain the entities “Contour” and “Elevation point” (metric),

      • Correction of discrepancies.

Supplemental trails and limited-access roads data for the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia are also now available in a provisional form. This data was originally included in an early release of CanTopo maps, and is now being prepared for official release as part of CanVec in the Spring of 2011. The provisional data is available in the interim "as-is" and without full metadata at: http://ftp2.cits.rncan.gc.ca/pub/cantopo/bctrailsprovisional/
