Eclipse-Maps.com Maps the History of Eclipse Maps With ArcGIS

January 5, 2011 By Editor

The recent lunar eclipse that took place on the Winter Solstice thrust the topic of solar/lunar eclipse into the spotlight once again. If eclipse spotting is your thing then take note of this resource eclipse-maps.com.

The resource shows off and tells the story of how eclipse maps were developed during the 17th century along with the development to present day mapping methods.

From the site… “Each eclipse map tells a story that weaves geographic knowledge, information visualization, scientific understanding, with artistic flourishes. Eclipse maps are remarkable artifacts of our civilization.”  Of particular interest are the amazing historical maps that are presented on the site, simply awesome!
