Plekhanov St-Petersburg State Mining University (Technical Institute) introduces modern space technologies into scientific-education and economic processes.
On November 15, 2010 the UniScan-24 hardware/software complex, intended for Earth observation data reception from space was put into operation at the Scientific-Educational Center of the University.
UniScan-24 ground station – developed and manufactured by ScanEx RDC – ensures the operation in the mode of direct data reception from Terra/Aqua, SPOT 4, EROS A satellites. Therefore, the Mining University that was awarded the status of a National Research Institute in 2009, has the operational access to optical satellite imagery data of middle and high resolution. Space imagery materials are planned to be used by the specialists of the Laboratory of Ecological Monitoring, Laboratory of Modeling Ecological Situation, Center of Geomechanics and Problems of Mining and other departments of the university to carry out scientific and research work by the request of the Ministry of Education and Science, natural resources sector enterprises.
