ITT Visual Information Solutions + Esri Partnership and the ArcGIS image analysis toolbox #ESRIUC

July 20, 2010 By GISuser

At a special PR event held in San Diego at the ESRIUC, Richard Cooke, President of ITT Visual Information Solutions, and Lawrie Jordan, Director of Imagery Enterprise Solutions for Esri both made statements and and addressed a room of journalists to provide the latest about ITT geospatial solution offering.

At the event, ITT representatives demonstrated the new ENVI functionality and products that further the integration of the two companies’ software technologies:

ENVI for ArcGIS Toolbox – ENVI functionality can now be accessed directly from the ArcGIS interface in both desktop and server environments. See the PR, ITT Corporation announces image analysis toolbox for Esri ArcGIS platform – http://www.gisuser.com/content/view/20979/2/

ENVI for ArcGIS(r) Server – a new ENVI product designed to provide image processing and analysis tools to workgroups and enterprises.

In welcoming us, Jordan reminded us how Esri has been building a platform that is imagery friendly. In the recent past, imagery was essentially a "backdrop" for working with in GIS; go back one year to ESRIUC 2009 when Jordan welcomed us to officially announce their partnership with ITT making imagery a core component of the GIS

Fast forward to today and now we see thanks to this partnership] how the Esri user can load, view, and manipulate imagery all within a centralized window. With ArcGIS server 10 + the image extension, the user enjoys a complete ened-to-end imagery solution, complete with: New tools for image preparation and tools to manage image natively; New image processing tools

Highlights of the presentation from ITT:

  • Last year, the release of ENVI EX… now we want to run it in server and on model builder etc… taking it to the Esri user.
  • Desktop – envi tools for ArcGIS, a set of tools to access and run natively within arcgis toolbox. Execute the tools and even run within model builder.
  • ENVI for ArcGIS Server – enterprise class version, scalable, extensible. Run concurrent processing, leverage server class hardware… most important, facilitates collaboration and sharing.
  • Comes in advanced and standard versions
  • Get a host of pre-built services (python UI enables users to easily and quickly create publish imagery services) Apps can also be built within ArcGIS environment via model builder.
  • ITT has all the pieces, from collection to dissemination…  Parent company builds hardware for cameras, satellites, and GPS payload used in spacecraft
  • image processing native to GIS – the discrete functionality of image processing.
  • Tools for key image analysis that can be deployed within arcgis environment.
  • All the tools will install when you install ENVI 4.8
  • Tools can be used on model builder and server
  • ENVI for ArcGIS Server… tools that can be used in the server environment. Think concurrent image processing and analysis.
  • Roll out October 10′ with the release of 4.8 –  available in standard and advanced capabilities.
