IRVINE, Calif.– The Rose Avenue and Central Avenue Intersection Improvement Project was recently completed in Ventura, California.
This project was among the first in the State of California and the County of Ventura to be authorized for American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding and go to construction.
"The County is very pleased with the quality of the engineering work provided by RBF in the preparation of the plans and specifications for this project. RBF solved several technical challenges very effectively and the project has turned out very well."
The purpose of the project was to widen Rose Avenue to two lanes in each direction on both sides of the Central Avenue intersection. A dedicated left turn lane was also added to Rose Avenue in each direction. The improvements allow the turn movements to occur without back up of traffic going straight through the intersection.
RBF Consulting (RBF) was part of a Design/Construction Team that included consultants and County of Ventura representatives. RBF was responsible for final engineering including widening of the intersection to improve the roadway and intersection capacity and provide increased traffic movements. The PS&E package included layouts and profiles, details, typical cross sections, right-of-way acquisition, signing and striping, and signal modification.
"Working with the County of Ventura and the consultant team on this project while utilizing stimulus funding has been a fantastic opportunity to show our County and State how effective and efficient these projects can be," indicated Darin Johnson, Senior Vice President based in Camarillo, CA for RBF Consulting. "The people of Ventura County have and will benefit significantly from this important stimulus project."
Chris Hooke, Deputy Director of the County of Ventura Transportation Department, said, "The County is very pleased with the quality of the engineering work provided by RBF in the preparation of the plans and specifications for this project. RBF solved several technical challenges very effectively and the project has turned out very well."
