2009 International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge SEVC Winners Announced

February 26, 2010 By GISuser

February 19, 2010 — Arlington, VA. — The National Science Foundation (NSF) along with the journal Science, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), today announced the winners of their seventh annual International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge.

Illustrators, photographers, computer programmers, and graphics specialists from around the world were invited to submit visualizations that would intrigue, explain, and educate. Over 130 entries were received from 16 countries.

Jeff Nesbit, Director of NSF’s Office of Legislative and Public Affairs, paid respect to all of the entrants, saying, “In these stunning creations, scale and complexity are no longer barriers to understanding, for there truly is nothing invisible to the human imagination. We are privileged,” he continued, “to see what these talented individuals have shown us and as citizens we are far richer for the insights they have revealed.”

Winning entries can be viewed on the NSF website, the Science website, and in the print issue of this week’s Science. First place and honorable mention winners are listed below. A number of semifinalists were recognized as well.
