GeoTerra orders new advanced Optech Galaxy airborne lidar for mountain surveys

February 23, 2015 By GISuser

February 23, 2015 — Optech is pleased to announce that it will deliver an Optech Galaxy airborne lidar to GeoTerra (formerly 3Di and Bergman Photographic Services), based in Eugene, Oregon. Optech Galaxy’s PulseTRAK™ technology will be particularly useful for GeoTerra’s upcoming western projects, bringing new efficiency to surveys with challenging elevation changes ?or restrictive flying altitudes. GeoTerra also selected the Galaxy system for the flexibility it gives them to take on a greater variety of projects, including low-altitude utility surveys, landslide risk analysis, and wide-area mapping.

GeoTerra will benefit greatly from PulseTRAK’s™ continuous operating envelope and swath tracking mode, making it much easier for them to plan and execute surveys in mountainous terrain. These features specifically eliminate the multipulse challenge by providing seamless and wholly consistent datasets, with no data gaps or density variations typical in the multipulse transition zones of other sensors. PulseTRAK™ also provides superior vertical density of complex targets, such as forests, by capturing up to 8 discrete returns per pulse, enabling GeoTerra to more efficiently model forest structure and understory growth without the need for full-waveform recording (optionally available).

“We are very excited to have our latest technology used by the GeoTerra team,” said Angie Swirski, Optech Regional Sales Manager, “and we look forward to supporting their continued success as a primary data and service provider.”

“The Optech Galaxy system is a game-changer for GeoTerra, providing us with enhanced lidar capabilities to include system utilization in all types of terrain,” said Bret Hazell, President of GeoTerra. “The PulseTRAK™ technology, system power, versatility, and speed of acquisition will result in a great value for our clients and assist GeoTerra in staying a leader within our industry.”
