4 Tips on How to Avoid Car Accidents

October 12, 2020 By Editor

Every year in the United States, more than 30,000 people lose their lives in road accidents, and it is a number that is increasing gradually.

Around 16,000 road accidents happen every day in the U.S., and still, most of us think that it would never happen to us. Even if you are a great driver and always follow all the rules, you still won’t be able to escape an accident if the other driver is at fault. That is why it is vital for you to learn the basic rules of road safety and understand fleet safety analytics so you can drive carefully and sense an accident even before it has happened.

Pull into Traffic Slowly

Whenever you are pulling into traffic, all of your attention should be on the road. Keep your eyes open and turn off the car stereo. You should also be aware of all the blind spots, including highway road signs, windshield pillars, and rearview mirrors. When you are making a turn at an intersection, you must look twice on both sides of the road before you proceed. When the traffic is moving fast, vehicles can come out of nowhere, so it is always better to be highly cautious.

Keep Your Distance from Reckless Drivers

If a driver around you is behaving irresponsibly, it is wise to keep your distance from them. Some people will never follow the traffic rules properly and can end up injuring innocent bystanders or other vehicles around them. You should always keep a distance from such vehicles. Remember, if someone causes an accident while driving carelessly, you may be able to obtain compensation by bringing a claim against them. If you are based in Jackson, reach out to the car accident attorneys at Brown, Bass & Jeter PLLC.

Limit Distractions

One of the main causes of road accidents is distractions. If there are too many things going on in your car, you are bound to get distracted by them, and with the lapse in concentration, you can end up making a mistake. That is why it is highly recommended that you limit these distractions and drive with complete focus. Put your phone on silent and don’t occupy your mind with anything else other than driving. Listen to the music in low sound, and if you have to take a call, stop the car in a safe area.

Beware of Red Light Runners

Before you finally put your foot on the gas when the light has turned green, you should count to three and then proceed. Even when the traffic light is green, you should still look both ways before crossing the signal. Some people try to catch the light from far behind at quick speed, and you should always watch out for those kinds of drivers.
