GeospatialPlatform.Gov Launched by DOI

November 10, 2011 By Editor

Launched just today (Nov 10) by the DOI, the prototype version of the Geospatial Platform combines map-based data and tools with the latest internet technologies to deliver geospatial information in a simple, understandable package, according to the official release, users—including the public, federal agencies and their partners—can easily find federally-maintained geospatial data, services and applications, as well as access data from our partners across State, Tribal, Regional and local governments. The site boasts featured maps, collaborative group areas, and a resource to “build a map” which looks like arcgis.com basically.

About the Platform… Federal agencies and their partners collect and manage large amounts of geospatial data – but these data are often not easily found when needed or accessible in useful forms. The Geospatial Platform provides ready access to federally maintained geospatial data, services and applications. The content of all datasets and services demarcated with the Data.gov globe have been verified by the Agency to be consistent with Federal privacy, national security, and information quality policies. As an additional service to our users, we also provide access to data from our partners across State, Tribal, Regional and local governments as well as non-governmental organizations. (Source: DOI)
