A hallmark of InfoWorks ICM is its dynamic integration of one-dimensional (1D) hydrodynamic simulation of flows in rivers, open channels and pipe networks and two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic simulation of surface flooding in the urban environment and river floodplain. This industry-leading software provides a powerful solution for simultaneously modeling below-ground and above-ground elements of catchments to accurately represent all flow paths and improve understanding of the processes occurring in the holistic environment. The software also takes into account interactions of natural and man-made environments and effectively simulates the water quality impact of polluting runoff and effluent from urban areas. Such advanced capabilities greatly enhance the ability of water utilities to predict flood risks; support cost-effective drainage design and management; develop online urban flooding forecasts; conceive and evaluate sound and reliable urban catchment strategies such as storm sewer separation, active real-time control and provision of adequate additional storage; and improve the operation of any drainage system.
A key focus of InfoWorks ICM V2.0 is making the integrated modeling experience faster in almost every respect. The software utilizes a simulation agent to separate the tasks of model construction and simulation, allowing these operations to be carried out simultaneously. In addition to overall 2D simulation speed enhancements, the simulation agent has the added ability of performing 2D meshing operations, controlling multi-threading for each simulation job individually, and using advanced caching to improve drawing performance.
With this version’s new water quality features, InfoWorks ICM continues to set the bar for water quality modeling of combined urban infrastructure. Users may now model dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3), pH (PH), salt (SAL), water temperature (TW) and coliforms (COL). Support is also included for decaying pollutants by allowing users to set decay options in the water quality parameters sheet. Built-in processes for dissolved oxygen and temperature parameters are also included.
The ability to validate network models saves users valuable time during the model build process. New validations added to InfoWorks ICM V2.0 include bed slopes in reaches, chamber floor levels in 2D notes, Manning n values on river reaches, bridge openings, culvert inlet levels, conduit head loss types, river section spacing, and mesh element sizing.
Integration with the Esri (Redlands, CA) ArcGIS platform makes it easier for users to build and integrate their modeling results into their enterprise environments. The new version includes options to use ArcGIS Server map services to display background map layers and ArcEngine map controls for offline viewing of background layers . There is also additional support for ArcGIS 10 datasets.
