POWER Engineers Assists East River Electric Power Cooperative with Enterprise GIS Needs Assessment and Go Forward Plan
April 27, 2010 – POWER Engineers, Inc. (POWER), a global consulting engineering firm specializing in integrated GIS and asset management enterprise solutions, helped East River Electric Power Cooperative (East River) with a Needs Assessment and a Go Forward Plan for their new enterprise GIS implementation and integration project. The new GIS will increase operational efficiency, raise productivity, and improve member service, as well as lay the foundation upon which future smart grid initiatives can be built.
Chuck Lohsandt, IT Director for East River commented, "We currently have a wide variety of department-based business processes, software, data, and paper-based solutions. POWER was able to help us sift through all the documented information and, more importantly, extract lots of undocumented knowledge from the stakeholder interviews, so that we could craft a solid plan that will be implemented incrementally to fit with our budget and available resources. POWER did a great job and we are very happy that we can now move forward confidently by following the roadmap that they created for us."
The Needs Assessment identifies the overall vision for the system and the high-level requirements for East River’s enterprise GIS based on interviews and workshops with key stakeholders. The Go Forward Plan provides the roadmap and industry best-practices for implementing an integrated solution that will satisfy those requirements. POWER previously completed a Data Inventory for East River to collect and document the various data artifacts that are being used in the current business process flows.
"East River is focused on providing reliable and affordable wholesale electric service to their members," stated Chris Erpelding, POWER’s GIS & Asset Management Consulting Department Manager. "With the completion of the Needs Assessment and Go Forward Plan, East River is now in a great position to take advantage of the new technologies that are available in the industry to help them achieve their overall corporate strategy and vision."
