Webinar Workshop Series Announced by ASPRS

July 9, 2009 By Editor

The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) has developed a new Webinar Workshop Series, with the first workshop in the series being Preparation for ASPRS Certification.

This workshop will be offered in four 2-hour segments on Wednesday, August 19 and Thursday, August 20, 2009.

Now, individuals with limited time and/or travel funds can take popular ASPRS Workshops, previously available only at ASPRS conferences, from their home or office through the new ASPRS Webinar Workshop Series.  Participants will be able to interact with others attending the Webinar and ask questions, just as if they were attending the workshop at an ASPRS conference.  Workbooks for the workshop will be shipped to participants in advance.

“With the launch of this Webinar Workshop Series, ASPRS is expanding its reach to individuals who find it difficult to travel to our conferences to participate in the many outstanding workshops that are offered by experts in the profession,” said ASPRS Executive Director James Plasker.  “We expect that by making these educational opportunities more accessible, folks will find it easier to take courses that enrich their career development.”

The four two-hour segments of the first Preparation for ASPRS Certification Webinar are scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Central Time and Thursday, August 20th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Central Time.  Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this and all ASPRS Workshops.  Registration for the Preparation for ASPRS Certification Webinar and complete information on how to sign up for CEUs is available at www.asprs.org/webinarseries.

Attendees consistently rate ASPRS Workshops as 4s and 5s (with 5 being Strongly Agree) for the usefulness of the content, quality and effectiveness of the instructor(s), and often recommend the workshops to others.

Preparation for ASPRS Certification is one of ASPRS’ most popular workshops.  This live webinar will be offered at least twice a year.  The Certification Workshop, designed to be a preparation course for those planning on taking any of the ASPRS Certification Exams, will cover the purpose and form of the exams, identifies key topical areas, and lists resources individuals should review to prepare for both the Professional and Technologist Certification exams.

The ASPRS Certification Program has a long history of certifying professionals in Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, and GIS/LIS.  More recently the Technologist Certification was added for each of those disciplines.  The goals of the ASPRS Certification Program are to improve the performance of the professional, assure users that certified practitioners have the skills users expect, and gain acceptance of the Certification Program by state boards of professional registration.

By taking this workshop, individuals will be putting money into their pockets.  Individuals who achieve ASPRS Certification are in high demand and hired for their knowledge and expertise.  “ASPRS Certification is a highly sought after credential by employers and clients,” says Raquel Charrois, ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrist.  “Since receiving my certification, I find I get more respect from my peers and clients.”

Jeffrey Laird, ASPRS Certified Mapping Scientist – GIS/LIS says, “In the past five years, I have found that this certification carries a great deal of weight with my clients, particularly with new clients who do not yet know my work.  The certification seems to give them a greater comfort level knowing that ASPRS stands behind my experience and the quality of my work.”

Additional ASPRS Webinar Workshop courses will be announced in the near future.

Founded in 1934, ASPRS is an international professional organization of 6,000 geospatial data professionals.  ASPRS is devoted to advancing knowledge and improving understanding of the mapping sciences to promote responsible application of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems and supporting technologies.  For additional information about ASPRS, visit our web site at www.asprs.org.
