Following on from the successful pre-conference activities at last year’s GeoCommunity the organisers have announced a wide range of activities taking place on the 22nd September in Stratford upon Avon.
The AGI Environmental group will be hosting a geocaching event during the day which will provide an opportunity to learn something about the natural and historic environment of Stratford upon Avon.
The Oracle Spatial user group will be holding a meeting at the conference hotel during the day, more details can be found at http://bit.ly/qo5x
The AGI Standards Committee is hosting a workshop on the business benefits that the adoption of standards for geographic information can bring. The workshop will be a mixture of short informal presentations, case studies and an open forum
In the evening the "ice-breaker" dinner, quiz and entertainment is being sponsored by Oracle and Navteq. This year in addition to another perplexing geoquiz compiled by Alan Wilkes, the AGI’s finance officer, GeoCommunity welcomes award winning comedian Jude Simpson.
A former ministerial Private Secretary, Jude combines insightful observational comedy with witty wordplay, poetry, rap and song to create a signature act which leaves audiences smiling, laughing and occasionally hungry. Her performances have very wide appeal and a strong feel-good factor. From a poem describing the characteristics of a female football fan to songs about big bones, lost love and found gadgets, she has the ability to leave you with a warm glow and a suspicion that maybe, just maybe, everything’s going to be OK
Steven Feldman, Chair of GeoCommunity said "As the GeoCommunity grows we have responded to the enthusiasm of our delegates for more activity on the pre-conference day. The range of activity reflects the wide interests within the GeoCommunity and will be capped by a great opportunity to meet other delegates in the ice-breaker. I am really looking forward to being entertained by a civil servant – that could be a memorable first!"
