Exprodat Launches New ArcGIS Training Courses for Petroleum Professionals

May 7, 2009 By Editor

London, United Kingdom, 7th May 2009. Exprodat announces the launch of two new Petroleum GIS training courses: `Play Fairway Mapping with ArcGIS’ and `Building and Managing an E&P GIS’.

The new courses are the latest additions to Exprodat’s Geospatial Training Programme for E&P, a series of classroom based training modules designed to help oil and gas geoscientists benefit by applying GIS technology to common petroleum workflows. More details are available at http://www.exprodat.com.

Exprodat’s introductory `Applied ArcGIS Techniques for E&P’ course was the first of its kind in the oil and gas sector, and Exprodat has built on this success by developing an entire training programme focused on applying ArcGIS technology to exploration and production workflows. The latest courses to be added to the programme provide additional opportunities for oil and gas companies to increase productivity through improving the skills and competencies of their staff.

Exprodat’s Training Manager, Chris Skelly, says, "The `play fairway’ course is a workflow based course in which participants are introduced to how geospatial tools can be used to revolutionize traditionally paper-based workflows. Meanwhile the `building and managing’ course allows participants to develop data management skills that enable confident ArcGIS desktop users to create and manage spatial data according to best practice."

"Both use the sort of data that E&P professionals will be familiar with because we want to help them hit the ground running with GIS when they get back to their day jobs. The exercises and course materials are great, but I believe that it is the quality of our trainers, who have a rare combination of knowledge in both GIS and geoscience, that makes our training events valuable and unique."

Exprodat’s E&P industry focused ArcGIS training courses are based on wide experience of the applications of GIS within the petroleum sector, gained through working on a multitude of projects with a wide array of clients.  The instructor led classroom-based courses are designed to be as short as possible so that the attendees spend the minimum amount of time away from their ‘day jobs’.  The courses are delivered as a combination of presentations, demonstrations, case studies and hands-on exercises, and in order to maintain the quality of the classes, Exprodat’s trainers are TAP certified (www.tap-training.com).

ArcGIS is a scalable family of software products comprising a complete geographic information system (GIS) built on industry standards. ArcGIS is used for the creation, management, integration, analysis, display, and dissemination of spatial data. Visualization, editing, and analysis, along with advanced data management, distinguish the ArcGIS software family as the leading GIS software. Much more than a specialized offering for a small niche of specialists, ArcGIS is designed as a scalable system that can be deployed in every organization, from an individual desktop to a globally distributed network of people.

ArcGIS extensions such as ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst extend the functional capabilities of the ArcGIS Desktop products, which include ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo. GIS users worldwide can use ArcGIS and extensions to maximize the potential benefits of geographic information and address specific GIS application requirements.
