26 January 2007 – ESRI (UK) has today launched a series of new, non-technical, GIS Management training courses – the first time that such courses have been offered within the GIS industry.
The courses, which are technology neutral and open to both customers and non customers, aim to provide those who oversee GIS projects with the skills and vision to manage these projects effectively, creating maximum return on investment for their organisation.
“At ESRI (UK), we have the largest pool of GIS expertise in the UK , and we’ve seen through experience that the success of a GIS strategy is greatly improved if the GIS team and the wider organisation are committed to it” says Andy Coote , Consultancy Services Director at ESRI (UK).
“These courses are designed to help people understand the benefits of GIS and communicate them within their organisation.”
ESRI (UK) has introduced four new training courses:
· Tuning in to GIS technology – an overview for managers provides a broad overview of GIS and how it is used across industry and government sectors. It is aimed at decision makers who have GIS responsibility.
· Creating a business case for corporate GIS is aimed at managers who have to justify why GIS is a beneficial corporate resource. The course provides the tools and techniques to make a corporate business case for GIS.
· Delivering successful GIS projects reviews the full project lifecycle from inception through implementation to support. It applies standard project management methodologies to GIS and is aimed at those responsible for the implementation and management of GIS projects.
· Optimising Geographic Information Systems is for anyone who would like to expand and develop the use and benefits from their existing GIS. It focuses on how to carry out reviews and extract information from different parts of the organisation.
In collaboration with the Association for Geographic Information (AGI), all ESRI (UK) courses are now accredited with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points.
