Aurora, Colo., July 12, 2006-GeoWeb 2006 is pleased to announce that the Honorable Pat Bell, Minister of Agriculture and Lands, British Columbia, will speak on Wednesday, July 26, at the GeoWeb 2006 conference. GeoWeb 2006 will be held July 24-28, 2006, at the Morris J. Wosk Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Organized by Galdos Systems Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia, and supported by the Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA), Aurora, Colo., the conference will feature nearly 70 paper presentations, 13 workshops, keynote addresses, plenary sessions, and an exhibit floor-all focused on the convergence of extensible markup language (XML), Web services, and geographic information systems.
“GeoWeb 2006 is where the main players in the fields of geospatial technology and the Internet converge to share ideas and information,” said Bell. “The importance of geographic information in the world of commerce has previously been largely invisible to much of the public. The world of the Web, with its focus on advertising and broad information access, has really brought this into the consciousness of everyday, average citizens.”
Bell plans to talk about some of British Columbia’s innovative geographic data and technological approaches as well as the province’s strategic gateway position at the junction of the world’s two economic power blocks, Asia and North America.
“We feel very privileged to have Mr. Bell speaking at GeoWeb 2006 and look forward to hearing his insights,” said Ron Lake, CEO Galdos Systems Inc. “This will be an exciting open the technical program and a great way to put the conference content into perspective with current events.”
Before becoming Minister of Agriculture and Lands on June 16, 2005, Bell served as Minister of State for Mining. He has chaired the Small Scale Salvage Review Committee, and sat on the Government Caucus Committee on Natural Resources, the British Columbia Task Force on Mining, and the Legislative Select Standing Committees on Education and Crown Corporations. He currently serves on the Treasury Board. Prior to becoming a minister, Bell owned a trucking company and co-owned a logging company.
