Cambridge, UK, 25 January 2006. Today at IBM Bedfont Lakes in the United Kingdom, Laser-Scan is launching its newest product called Radius Studio™.
This is the most innovative product in the Laser-Scan Radius Suite. Radius Studio acts as a spatial processing, analysis and compliance engine offering domain experts the possibility to create, review and refine business rules for spatial data across the web without them requiring developer skills. It is a tool that can quantitatively measure spatial data quality by analysing the compliance of business rules with existing data sets.
Laser-Scan was the first company to offer a fully interoperable and standards based, server-side topology engine for an Oracle relational database. Continuing this trend of high tech innovation Laser-Scan has been running a beta programme for Radius Studio that includes high profile organisations, such as IBM, Ordnance Survey Ireland and Tele Atlas. All of these organisations will be presenting how they manage business rules in a spatial data environment and their experiences on the Radius Studio Beta Programme.
Dr Michael Sanderson, CEO at Laser-Scan comments,
“The British government has recently moved beyond the joined-up government campaign. It is now talking about transforming business functions beyond the back-office form filling paradigm. To us this means that spatial data collected over the last 10-15 years has to be re-engineered.
A new supply chain model will develop where data quality will become a de rigueur discipline. This approach will become as much a part of IT operations as strategies for system backup and recovery. Radius Studio is a new tool that will allow the business functional user to automate the re-engineering of spatial data and help them assess the fitness for purpose of their data for delivery to the citizen or customer. If you look at our Beta Programme participants they are all involved in creating new master data sets capable of electronic delivery to the point of use.”
Jonathan Lowe, IBM Business Consulting Services, GIS Specialist said,
“Radius Studio exemplifies our industry’s climb up the data-to-wisdom pyramid in that it enables comparison of standalone datasets against one another. Most practitioners are used to checking an individual dataset’s quality – checking its geometry for unclosed polygons, overshoots, kickbacks, and a host of other errors. Checks can also include geometry comparison and topologic integrity checks within the same thematic layer, such as confirming that contiguous boundaries never overlap. As important to data quality as they are, these quality tests operate at the information level of the pyramid.
Laser-Scan is helping users step up another level to manage knowledge by providing comparisons not just within layers, but between them.” *
Radius Studio provides rule authoring, automated corrective actions and rule lifecycle management to help determine the ROI for your spatial data quality.
