Pictometry Measuring Software and 3D Aerial Photos Used by Law Enforcement Agencies in Preplanning for Presidential Visit
ROCHESTER, NY – June 1, 2005 – Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery announced today that several local law enforcement agencies were actively using the company’s measuring software and aerial imaging database of Monroe County, NY in their security preplanning efforts for President George W. Bush’s visit to Rochester, NY on Tuesday, May 24, 2005.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Greece, NY Police Department used the high-resolution visual information system to assess route planning, tactical placement, and other related tasks to the security procedures of the visit. Pictometry’s industry leading software enables users to easily access up to 12 different oblique (at an angle) views of any building, highway, or other feature in a county. The software also enables users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the 3D-like imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data.
Major Neil Flood from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office notes that the Pictometry system, also deployed in most of the department’s squad cars on PCs, was a part of the security preplanning efforts for the presidential visit. “Pictometry continues to prove itself as a valuable law enforcement technology that is efficient and thorough for everyday use as well as for special event planning operations,” said Flood. “It proved to be effective in coordinating the many details associated with this high-level event.”
Greece, NY Police Chief Merritt Rahn said his department also put the product through a vigorous workout in their preplanning and review of security measures for the VIP visit. “Pictometry enabled us to provide a very meticulous visual inspection of the entire area where the President would be traveling in our jurisdiction. We were very impressed with the technology. It was extremely useful and I don’t know what we would have done without it. It saved us a tremendous amount of work.”
Pictometry’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dante Pennacchia said, “Beyond the many practical uses that Pictometry provides to law enforcement personnel on a daily basis, we are very gratified to see Pictometry used to safeguard the President. This is the type of application where we have known all along that Pictometry would be the perfect technology. We are pleased that Pictometry continues to provide an excellent source of visual intelligence for this as well as other prominent events such as the G8 Summit and the national political conventions.”
