WHAT: Rand McNally, North America’s largest mapmaker, offers a geographic expert for stories regarding how: (1) the recent tsunami could change the earth’s geography from a mapmaking perspective and (2) how maps may need to be redrawn in light of the tsunami. Rand McNally’s expert offers both geographic analysis and opinion.
WHO: Joel Minster, chief cartographer and senior vice president of geographic information services (GIS) for Rand McNally. Joel serves regularly as an expert source on a variety of geographic and mapmaking topics for national publications.
WHEN: Joel is available to reporters immediately, via phone or e-mail.
WHY: According to Minster, changes to maps of certain tsunami-affected regions are likely, but by no means certain.
