January 27, 2005 By GISuser

New MapServer features for a global audience

Ottawa, ON, January 27, 2005 – DM Solutions Group Inc., a leading Open Source and open standards Web mapping solutions company, and Orkney Inc., a Japanese business solution provider, today announced a partnership to jointly deliver an internationalized version of MapServer.

DM Solutions Group has worked with Orkney to enhance MapServer capabilities to an international standard and provide world-class Web mapping solutions based on Open Source GIS technologies.  Enhancements to MapServer include several new language encoding capabilities such as Thai, Japanese and Chinese.

MapServer is an Open Source development environment for building Web mapping applications. This CGI-based application delivers online, interactive GIS and image processing information, quickly and reliably. DM Solutions Group has been the world’s largest contributor to MapServer since 2000, and is directly responsible for several key enhancements.

Orkney, Inc., provides business and technical GIS consulting services throughout Asia.  Through this partnership with DM Solutions Group, they are the first company to provide an internationalized version of MapServer.

“This partnership provides valuable business solutions based on Open Source GIS technologies to large enterprises with operations across countries or regions, and in multiple languages,” said Toru Mori, president and CEO of Orkney, Inc.

“With a worldwide user base of over 5000 and growing, the demand for an internationalized MapServer became obvious,” said David McIlhagga, president of DM Solutions Group Inc.  “We are excited about the global opportunities this partnership will present.”
