Public Safety CAD Software Now Enhanced With Oblique Digital Imagery
TEMECULA, CA and ROCHESTER, NY – June 9, 2004 – Plant Equipment, Inc. (Plant), the industry leader in public and private safety telecommunications, and Pictometry International Corp., provider of a patented information system that captures digital aerial oblique and orthogonal images, as well as related software, announced today that the two companies have formed a business partnership.
Under terms of the agreement, Pictometry, a Developer Partner for Plant Equipment, will work with Plant to integrate the ORION MapStar product with the company’s software and imagery. PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) that use ORION MapStar will now be able to instantly view caller locations from multiple angles with Pictometry’s high-resolution oblique imagery and software. This will enable dispatchers and first responders to save critical time by having a visual reference of the area and condition of where calls originate, view incident areas at night from a daylight perspective, “virtually” see through the smoke of a fire, provide assistance to reroute traffic, preplan for homeland security events, and ultimately better serve their communities. The two companies are currently collaborating on a number of 9-1-1 projects for county installations around the country.
ORION MapStar is a comprehensive and scalable mapping solution that can meet any PSAP needs. In addition to fast and easy location of wireless and wireline calls, MapStar can provide routing, site information, mapped ALI broadcasting, event/unit filtering, structure based ALI matching and more. Agents can quickly identify events, landmarks, ESNs, view buildings footprints, hazmat info, or any user-configured layer.
Pictometry’s industry leading software enables users to quickly and easily access up to 12 different high-resolution views of any property, building, highway, landmark, or other feature in a county. The software also enables end users to create measurements directly from the georeferenced imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data. The company’s customer list is approaching 100 counties, the State of Massachusetts, and includes a number of major metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
“The marriage of ORION MapStar with Pictometry imaging is exciting in that it opens new possibilities to the PSAP,” said Jeff Wittek, PEI’s Chief Technology Officer. “Telecommunicators will be able to not only graphically visualize the caller’s location on a map, but they will be able to actually see, via the Pictometry photographs, the attributes of the caller’s location or incident location. This greater level of detail could positively impact response unit recommendation, the timely response of field units and even response unit safety.”
“The combination of Plant’s public safety technology and our visual information system provides a powerful tool for today’s enhanced 9-1-1 centers,” said Dante Pennacchia, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing at Pictometry. “We are very excited about this partnership that helps improve response capabilities for dispatchers and first responders who use Plant and Pictometry solutions.”
