April 26, 2004: Seattle, Wash. — The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announced this week that John Middlestead, manager of data integrity & technology at DTE Energy Gas/MichCon in Detroit, Mich., has been named a recipient of GITA’s Distinguished Service Award.
The award is bestowed on individuals whose extraordinary personal contributions have added to the success of GITA. Middlestead is the first recipient of this newly created award, presented during the Opening Session of GITA’s Annual Conference 27, being held April 25-28 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle, Wash.
A member of GITA for 20 years, Middlestead has been involved in nearly every aspect of the association, ranging from the local chapter level to serving as the association’s president in 1998. In addition to his service on the association’s Board of Directors, he has also served as chair of GITA’s Annual Conference, Education, and Membership committees. A four-time recipient of the GITA Speaker Award, Middlestead has presented over 40 papers at the association’s Annual and Executive conferences. He has traveled around the globe as a representative of GITA and as a speaker at international conferences. Middlestead currently serves on GITA’s Industry Trends Analysis Group, as treasurer of the Great Lakes GITA chapter, and on the Past Presidents Advisory Council.
