Toronto-based startup leverages matching algorithm, verified student ratings and reviews, and online career centre to help close the digital skills gap across Canada
TORONTO, June 21, 2018 — CourseCompare.ca, Canada’s online marketplace for education, today unveiled a new platform designed to help Canadians identify and pursue the country’s most in-demand job skills. The education website, which matches visitors to courses and professional training programs based on their career goals and learning needs, is helping workers prepare for the more than 216,000 new tech jobs that will be created in Canada by 2021.i CourseCompare further aims to help millions of non-technical professionals advance their careers by improving access to “medium-level” tech skills, like learning how to use software for marketing, business analytics, and digital design, as more and more workers see their jobs impacted by digitalization.
CourseCompare.ca conducted extensive labour market research, including hundreds of surveys with educators and employers, to identify critical job skills and leading training programs across Canada. Users can visit CourseCompare.ca to search part-time and full-time certificate programs, verified course ratings and reviews, scholarships and funding resources, career advice and more related to each of the following fields:
- Data science
- Web development
- Mobile app development
- User experience design (UX) and user interface design (UI)
- Digital marketing
- Social media marketing
- Product management
“Canadians need an easier way to find high-quality training opportunities that will set them up for success in the digital economy,” said CourseCompare CEO and founder, Robert Furtado. “CourseCompare.ca empowers people to identify the right training programs and connect with advisors at universities, colleges and coding bootcamps in literally two-to-three clicks. Essentially, our goal is to create a faster, more transparent pathway to a fulfilling career for Canadians interested in technology.”
CourseCompare launches its new platform as Canadian companies in virtually every sector look to hire more digitally skilled workers. In 2017, employment for digital talent across Canada grew at its highest rate in 10 years, outpacing national job growth six-to-one, according to a study by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC). Meanwhile, Canada’s largest group of tech workers is rapidly approaching retirement, with 13.1 per cent currently between the ages of 55 and 64.
CourseCompare has helped more than 1,500 Canadians learn new digital skills and more than 300 Canadians begin new careers. The company currently partners with colleges, universities and coding bootcamps in Toronto and Vancouver, with plans to onboard education providers in major cities across Canada in the fall of 2018.
