The theme for this year’s Geonext conference was “Location Information, Intelligent Transport and the Smart City”.
A Hackathon was run in the lead up to the conference, the objective of the Hackathon was to turn data into innovative, unique and valuable applications.
Together with Vic Roads, Data.Vic put out the challenge to develop solutions and ideas to address the following transport issues:

Enabling integrated transport choices and making journeys pleasant and predictable

Improving road safety, amenity, and environmental outcomes.

Strengthening the economy through better use of roads and connections with land use.

- Hoang Nguyen: Synchronised Google maps with Timeline map providing one view of the 2014 crashes and road closures and the duration (on timeline map) in Victoria.
- Andie Yam:Bike-ability score of Victorian roads a visualisation that measures the rideability of bike paths by using a weighted distance framework.
- Alex Leith: Crash visualisation and integration with GoogleMaps Street view of crash locations.
- Ming Bai: A journey planner for heavy vehicles incorporating the height and width of heavy vehicle to ensure that the vehicles can fit under every bridge on the route.
