(December 06, 2012) FedGeo Day will showcase open source geospatial tools and look at how they can be used in the government to improve services, increase efficiency, and bring cost savings. The one day conference will be held on February 28, 2013 at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington, DC. FedGeo Day will explore how modern open source applications can be—and are being—used in government to dramatically improve mapping, cartography, GIS, and map publishing.
This exciting new conference will focus open source geospatial technology and trends in the federal space. It’s become increasingly clear that open source applications are changing GIS, cartography, web mapping, and map publishing, creating a powerful infrastructure for new tools that have thrown open the door of what’s possible in the geospatial world. FedGeo Day aims to introduce attendees to these tools and explore how and why government agencies are using them to dramatically improve their mapping, cartography, and GIS efforts.
The agenda is specially tailored for those who make technology decision work with or for the federal government. One track will feature case studies of the most compelling geospatial projects and tools in production within both government and private sectors. Managers and technologists will be on hand to present their open source tools and discuss the significance of their approach and implementation. A separate track will offer interactive technology demonstrations on specific applications. More information on the schedule, speakers, and tracks will be available shortly and a full schedule will soon be made available at fedgeoday.com. Space will be limited, those who are interested in attending are encouraged to register soon.
The event has strong support from the open source and federal community with a growing set of sponsors that include: OpenGeo, MapBox, RadiantBlue, The MapStory Foundation, Arc2Earth and GeoEye. These sponsors, along with influential figures in the open source federal community are the primary organizers of the event. FedGeo Day is being held on February, 28 2013 at the Woolly Mammoth Theater in Washington, DC.
