GeoConnections is pleased to invite you to a webcast on open source software licensing.
Currently there is no commonly accepted guidance available to inform operational policy decisions on the licensing of open source software in the CGDI community. While GeoConnections remains impartial on the subject of open source vs. proprietary software, it is important to provide required information and guidance to CGDI stakeholders to inform operational policies that allow organizations to proceed in a manner best suited to their business needs, and that also promotes the highest level of interoperability within Canada’s SDI community. Under contract with Hickling Arthurs Low Corporation, GeoConnections is developing an Open Source Software Licensing Primer to fill this need.
This webinar will highlight some of the key considerations that must be kept in mind when using or releasing OSS and introduce you to the Primer. The webinar will be structured in two parts. The first part will focus on organizational use of common open source software licensing models, while the second part will explain how organizations can license the software that they have developed for use by others in an open source environment.
The session will close with a question and answer period where you will be welcome to pose questions to the presenters.
