Alexandria, VA – December 5, 2006 – David Ford has been appointed Vice President of Strategic Programs at Rannoch Corporation after having recently retired from a distinguished 31 year career at the FAA.
Mr. Ford has successfully managed programs in the terminal environment, airport surface and oceanic airspace, serving as the catalyst for several ground-breaking improvements. Ford will be responsible for managing Rannoch’s strategic surveillance programs where the company’s ADS-B and multilateration technologies are positioned to improve air traffic safety, capacity and efficiency for the next-generation of air traffic management.
Ford led the team on the deployment of the Advanced Technologies and Oceanic Procedures (ATOP) program that controls traffic over 24 million square miles of oceanic airspace. ATOP is widely regarded as a monumental success in the industry as it dramatically increases capacity through reduction of aircraft separation standards from 100 to 30 miles which significantly reduces airline costs. Ford is also known as the “father of DOTS,” the Dynamic Ocean Track System, which generates daily flight tracks to improve the efficiency of ocean crossing for the user community. And while leading the FAA’s Safeflight 21 team, he was responsible for exploring many runway incursion tools that include surface applications of ADS-B and multilateration.
“David brings a track record of innovation and a remarkable ability to introduce progressive thinking to the issues facing our industry,” commented Dave Ellison, Rannoch’s President and CEO. “Rannoch, together with our strategic partners, is helping to shape the future of air traffic control and David’s leadership and experience will ensure that our efforts are successful.”
“The world’s leading aviation authorities have recognized that the growth in air travel cannot be effectively and safely accommodated with today’s radar infrastructure and are looking to our core technologies to help manage the next-generation airspace”, said David Ford. “I’m excited about the challenges ahead of us to meet the growing demands on the system. Deployment of emerging technologies such as ADS-B and multilateration in the aviation infrastructure presents a great opportunity for our company to contribute to the future needs of our industry”.
