Thales Canada, Systems Division and the Department of National Defence recognized for Innovative GIS Implementation for Army Command and Control
Ottawa, ON – Thales Canada, Systems Division – Land and Joint Command and Control Applications GIS Team and the Department of National Defence’s Director Land Command Systems Program Management were recently presented with a joint Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada’s annual conference in Ottawa. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of how Thales Canada Systems Division, in partnership with the Department of National Defence, is integrating ArcGIS technology into the future generation of the Canadian Army’s tactical command and control system, BattleView. More than 250 GIS professionals were on hand for the presentation, which was one of the highlights of the conference.
“The Award of Excellence is going to two very deserving organizations that are dedicated to supporting Canadian Forces commanders and the conduct of military operations through the provision of a tactical command and control information system, TacC2IS, for the Army,” said Mr. Miller. “Their work to integrate ArcGIS technology into the Army’s TacC2IS will assist the Canadian Forces’ deployed operations both in Canada and around the world, especially in places such as Afghanistan for the war against terrorism.”
BattleView is the Canadian Army’s command and control application deployed in army headquarters. Its main functionalities are battle management and operational planning, and it employs mapping and geodata management capabilities.
