Joins Growing List of Nation’s Largest Energy Businesses Implementing ESRI Enterprise GIS Software and Services
REDLANDS, Calif.- Sept. 19, 2006–Pacific Gas and Electric company (PG&E) has selected ESRI as its enterprise geographic information system (GIS) software provider. The company will take advantage of a corporate-wide enterprise license that includes the full suite of ArcGIS software, extensions, and services. The result will be an open, scalable, and standards-based GIS architecture that will integrate and leverage existing information technology (IT) resources. The newly implemented GIS will meet diverse business and engineering needs now and into the future.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company is one of the largest combined natural gas and electric utilities in the United States. The company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation, serves approximately 15 million people throughout a 70,000-square-mile service area in northern and central California.
PG&E’s selection of ESRI software for a company-wide site license is the latest in a series of large-scale implementations by the nation’s largest energy businesses. Half of the nation’s top dozen energy businesses now use ESRI’s enterprise GIS software. PG&E joins major utilities such as Southern Company, DTE Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Consumers Energy, PHI Holdings, and many others.

The enterprise platform will enable employees to work faster, smarter, and with greater efficiency and productivity using GIS for analytics and decision support.”
The multiyear implementation will deliver a single GIS solution for PG&E’s electric, gas, and land base divisions and enhance investments in core information technologies.
