Tampa, Fla., April 28, 2006—The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announced today that Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Juno Beach, Florida, was named the recipient of the 2006 GITA Innovator Award for the public sector.
The award recognizes the unique and significant contributions of organizations that have used geospatial technology in the innovative development of a technology, service, or application. The award was presented during GITA’s Annual Conference 29, held April 23-26, 2006, at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Fla..
Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) implemented its first GIS 19 years ago. Through the years, they have continued to evolve with the technology, and their GIS is now an enterprise-wide application that supplies land, asset, and network information for all subscribing business processes and applications.
By creating a single system of record for this information and a daily process for disseminating updates, they have eliminated inefficiencies in the data maintenance process and improved the timeliness and accuracy of this data.
“FPL is honored to be recognized by GITA for our achievements as an innovator in the GIS community,” said Jimmy Bouchillon, senior business consultant.
